El Centro de Relevamiento y Evaluación de Recursos Agrícolas y Naturales (CREAN) surge como uno de los resultados de un proyecto de investigación y transferencia de tecnología (Proyecto Lupino) que permitió la construcción de un edificio con laboratorios y oficinas.
Se constituyó formalmente en el seno de la Facultad de Ciencias Agropecuarias de la Universidad Nacional de Córdoba, merced a resoluciones del Honorable Consejo Directivo en noviembre de 1997. En el año 2000, el CREAN se establece como un Centro de Capacitación IDRISI, con alcance internacional para países de habla hispana y en noviembre de 2012 se transforma en una Unidad Asociada al Instituto Multidisciplinario de Biología Vegetal (IMBIV) de doble dependencia CONICET-UNC.
El Centro desarrolla actividades en múltiples áreas de las Ciencias Agronómicas, Biológicas e Informáticas. Está conformado por investigadores, becarios y personal de apoyo del Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas (CONICET), docentes-investigadores y becarios de la Facultad de Ciencias Agropecuarias (UNC) y especialistas de universidades y dependencias científico-tecnológicas.
Los proyectos cuentan con los auspicios de organismos e instituciones provinciales y nacionales, tales como: SECyT, SECyTeCOR, CONICET, INTA, CONAE, UCC. Entre los vínculos de cooperación internacional, caben mencionar: Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), National Drought Mitigation Center (Nebraska University, EE.UU), Clark University (EE.UU.) y Joint Research Centre (JRC) de la Comunidad Europea. Cabe destacar la labor de investigación y extensión que forman parte de proyectos multidisciplinarios y de tesis de postgrado en: Cartografía de zonificación de lupinos y especies forestales; estudios morfológicos y taxonómicos de plantas; relevamientos florísticos y de biodiversidad; evaluaciones etnobotánicas; ecología de insectos plaga; efectos del paisaje urbano sobre artrópodos; monitoreo de la desertificación y las sequías a nivel nacional; modelación matemática de cultivos; recepción y metodologías de aplicación de información satelital. La producción científica y tecnológica de los integrantes del CREAN se ve reflejada en numerosas publicaciones en revistas especializadas, presentaciones a congresos, cursos, seminarios y talleres.

The Center for the Survey and Evaluation of Agricultural and Natural Resources (CREAN) emerged as one of the results of a research and technology transfer project (Proyecto Lupino) that allowed the construction of a building with laboratories and offices.

The scientific and technological production of CREAN members is reflected in numerous publications in specialized journals, presentations at congresses, courses, seminars and workshops.
